Regular EMDR happens in weekly 50-minute sessions over many months — well-suited to complex or layered trauma that benefits from steady ongoing work. EMDR intensives compress that work into focused multi-hour or multi-day sessions, leveraging processing momentum that weekly sessions can’t sustain. Intensives are particularly effective for single-incident trauma, stalled standard EMDR, pre-event preparation, or clients with limited availability windows. Both formats use the same EMDR protocol — only the pacing differs.
