Why I Do This Work

Curious About Why People Are the Way They Are

I have always enjoyed learning about why people make the decisions that they make, and think the way that they do. Becoming a therapist was a natural path — not just to learn about it, but to actually help people who are struggling find themselves in a better place.

“Better” looks different for every person, and that’s the part I love. My job isn’t to tell you what better should look like — it’s to walk with you while you figure that out for yourself.

I’ve spent the past several years working primarily with people facing the disease of addiction, and through that work I’ve seen the full range of mental health challenges that often come along with it — depression, anxiety, trauma, complicated relationships, identity questions. My goal in every session is to build safety and security so clients can find the level of comfort they deserve.

“I’m a big believer in meeting people where they are at — and going from there. Together.”

Background & Experience

Seven Years in Addiction and Mental Health Care

My background is heavily rooted in addiction work — and that has made me a better therapist for everything else, too. People who come into addiction treatment rarely come with just one issue. There’s almost always trauma, depression, anxiety, or relational struggles woven in. Working with that complexity for seven years has shaped how I approach every client.

I hold an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I’m both a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I work primarily with young adults and adults across Pittsburgh and all of Pennsylvania via telehealth.

I’m an LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician — which to me means more than tolerance. It means actively understanding the specific stressors and protective factors that come with these identities, and integrating that into care without making it the whole conversation.

My Approach to Counseling

Conversational, Strengths-Based, and Tailored to You

I’m a very conversational therapist. I enjoy getting to know each client individually because I think that’s how real therapy happens — not through a protocol applied to everyone, but through a genuine understanding of who you are and what you’re working with.

By taking the time to know you, I’m able to help you accomplish your goals — whatever those are — and identify the strengths you already have. So much of therapy is helping people see themselves more clearly, including the resources they didn’t know they had. I want clients to leave sessions feeling more confident in themselves and the decisions they make.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills — particularly helpful for people in recovery and those navigating intense emotions.

Acceptance-Based Therapy

Working with what is, rather than fighting against it. Acceptance-based work helps clients move toward a meaningful life even when difficult thoughts and emotions are present.

Motivational Interviewing

A collaborative conversation style that helps clients explore and resolve ambivalence about change. Especially well-suited to addiction work but valuable across many concerns.

Reality Therapy

A practical, present-focused approach that emphasizes choice, responsibility, and identifying the actions that align with what you actually want for your life.

Strengths-Based Approach

Therapy that starts from what’s working — your existing strengths, resources, and resilience — and builds from there rather than focusing only on what’s broken.

Person-Centered

Meeting you where you are. The right approach for any session depends on what you actually need that day, not on what a textbook says we should be doing.

What Working With Me Looks Like

Comfortable Conversation, Real Goals

If you’re looking for a therapist who actually talks with you — who asks questions because she’s genuinely curious, not because they’re on a checklist — that’s how I work.

Building safety comes first. People don’t make real progress in environments where they don’t feel safe, and “safe” doesn’t mean perfectly comfortable — it means trusting that I’m not going to judge you, push you somewhere you’re not ready to go, or pretend to have answers I don’t.

Once that’s there, we figure out what you’re actually working on, what success would look like for you, and how to get there. Goals are yours, not mine. My job is to walk with you.
