Counseling for Teens
in Pennsylvania
Trauma-informed therapy for teens ages 13-17 across Pennsylvania. Licensed PA therapists who actually connect with adolescents — secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth from the comfort of home.
Therapy Built for the Way Teens Actually Show Up
Adolescence is hard in ways that often surprise even the most engaged parents. Teen counseling provides a private, consistent space where your teen can work through anxiety, depression, trauma, social pressure, identity questions, school stress, and the relational struggles that come with being 13-17 in 2026.
At Darin King Counseling, our work with teens is grounded in a simple principle: therapy works when the teen actually wants to be there. We meet teens where they are — not where parents wish they were — and build the kind of relationship that makes real change possible. Our trauma-informed foundation means we understand how stress, peer dynamics, family patterns, and early experiences shape how teens feel and behave.
- Anxiety, panic, or constant worry that’s affecting school or sleep
- Depression, low motivation, or withdrawal from family and friends
- Social struggles, friendship conflicts, bullying, or feeling like they don’t fit in
- Self-esteem, body image, or identity concerns
- Emotional dysregulation — big reactions, shutdowns, or unexpected outbursts
- Past experiences (trauma, loss, divorce, bullying) that are still affecting the present
- Family conflict, communication breakdowns, or feeling disconnected at home

Evidence-Based Teen Therapy That Goes Deeper Than Coping Skills
Most teen therapy starts and ends with coping skills. Coping skills matter — and they’re not enough. We help teens understand what’s actually driving their struggles, build the regulation skills they need day to day, and change the patterns that keep showing up. Our trauma-informed approach looks beneath the surface at the experiences and dynamics that shape how teens feel and respond.
- Trauma-informed teen therapy tailored to your teen’s specific goals
- Evidence-based approaches: CBT, EMDR, ACT, DBT, IFS — adapted for adolescents
- Therapists who actually connect with teens — not just clinicians who see teens occasionally
- Flexible telehealth scheduling — after school, evenings, and weekends
- Available to all Pennsylvania teen residents via secure video sessions
- Parent collaboration and check-ins built into the work
How We Treat Teen Counseling
We draw from multiple evidence-based modalities — adapted specifically for adolescents — tailored to your teen’s specific presentation and needs.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps teens identify and change the thought patterns and behaviors driving anxiety, depression, and other struggles. Adapted for adolescents, it produces measurable, lasting change and gives teens tangible skills they can use right away.
Trauma-Informed Care
Every session is grounded in an understanding of how trauma, adverse experiences, and chronic stress shape how teens feel, behave, and relate to others. We treat the root, not just the symptoms.
EMDR Therapy for Teens
For teens whose struggles are rooted in specific traumatic memories or adverse experiences, EMDR helps the brain reprocess those memories so they stop driving present-day symptoms. Safe and effective for adolescents.
ACT, DBT & IFS
We draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, and Internal Family Systems depending on what your teen’s specific presentation calls for — never a one-size approach.
Confidentiality, Consent & Parent Involvement
The #1 question parents ask about teen therapy is what they will and won’t be told. Our approach is built around a simple truth: teens need privacy to actually open up, and parents need to know their child is safe. We balance both with clear, consistent communication.
- Day-to-day session content stays private. Teens need a confidential space to actually do the work — without it, therapy rarely sticks.
- Safety always comes first. If your teen is at risk of harming themselves or others, or is being harmed, you’ll be involved immediately.
- Big-picture themes are shared with permission. Your therapist will work with your teen on what to share with you, so collaboration happens without breaking trust.
- Regular parent check-ins are part of the work. Periodic parent calls or sessions help us all stay aligned on progress and goals.
- Parent consent is part of intake. Pennsylvania requires parental consent for therapy with minors under 14, and we collaborate closely with parents at every age.
