FAQS

Counseling FAQs Pennsylvania

Treatment

What do you treat

I have a background treating various mental health disorders. These include trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex-PTSD, OCD, ADHD, and drug and alcohol treatment. Now I am expanding my skills into the trauma realm. Nonetheless, I’m still capable of treating other diagnoses. I offer a free 15 minute consultation for new clients. The consultation allows us to explore if I would be a good fit.

Counseling Style

What is your style or approach?

My background is using CBT, DBT, and more recently ACT. I am now pursuing training in EMDR so I can offer this to my clients. My style is very client centered and I like to meet my clients where they are.

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?

Absolutely! I offer a judgment free and safe space for clients of any background. Clients deserve to feel relaxed and capable to be who they truly are.

I noticed you offer “faith based counseling”. Does that mean you are a “Christian Counselor“?

I offer faith-based counseling for clients who wish to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process. I do not classify as a “Christian Counselor.” Still, I am a licensed professional counselor. I practice from a foundation of Christian faith. I do not start or integrate faith-based perspectives unless specifically requested by the client. For many individuals, including faith in therapy offers a more holistic and meaningful approach to healing. This choice is available for those. They feel their spiritual life is an essential part of their emotional and mental well-being.

Why offer faith based then?

For example, someone wants to explore a “religious trauma” they have incurred. I offer this as a safe space for people to explore faith in a safe and healthy way. I respect all religions and faiths in my practice.

Counseling Session

Do you offer a free consult?

Yes! I offer a free 15 minute consult to see if I am a good fit for your journey into therapy. Feel free to reach out and schedule one!

What should I expect during an “Intake”?

During the intake, we will review your demographics and confirm your insurance information. We will explore what is bringing you into treatment. We will review consents and other forms. Together we’ll set the goals you would like to achieve while in treatment. Then, we will set up those goals into a treatment plan specific to you.

What to expect during a “session”?

We will discuss anything “new” that is pertinent to therapy. Progress since our last session will be reviewed. Together we discuss interventions we are trying to implement. I allow my clients to guide sessions. I truly believe this is “your” journey. I want to make sure you are getting what you want out of therapy.

Is there a set number of sessions I need?

No everyone is different and therapy is individualized. We go at your pace. Ultimately, we will work together to decide when you are at a good place. You will know you no longer need treatment. I was once told that “a good Therapist works themselves out of a job”. That is exactly what my goal is! I want to give you with the tools you need. You will be capable of thriving and live the life you want!

Telehealth

How does telehealth work?

I use Simple Practice as my electronic health record. As part of that, they offer a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. This is the platform we will use. You are sent an email before session that directly connects you to our session. We then join in a session just as you would in person.

Insurance

Which insurance do you take?

I presently accept Highmark BlueCross and Blueshield, UPMC, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Optum

Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

I do not offer that choice at this time. But, I do give different payment options like sliding scale and VCAP.

Do you offer “Self Pay” or “Sliding Scale”

Yes! I offer self pay for those that would like to pay out of pocket or don’t have insurance. I also offer a few sliding scale pay for clients who do not have insurance. Feel free to reach out to see if we can work something out.
